How Does Qigong Work?
Qigong is an ancient Chinese form of exercise, it is an internal process that has external movements. Qi means life force, the energy that powers our body and spirit. Gong means to work or gather. Qigong together means a form of movement and mindfulness working together to guide qi (life force).
The principles of qigong exercises are breathe, posture, movement, relaxation and concentration or visual action.
The Main Benefits of Qigong
The benefits of regular qigong practice includes:
- improved balance
- greater mental focus
- lower levels of stress and anxiety
- decreased chronic disease risk
As it is a mindfulness practice it helps to harmonise the nervous system and promote mental relaxation.
With a slow and gentle style, Qigong improves the physical functions of people without large amounts of energy exertion. Practicing qigong helps improve both physical and mental well-being, supporting the health of internal organs and enhancing overall bodily functions, to help you keep up with the needs of a modern lifestyle.
Who Should Try Qigong
Qigong is recommended for all age groups and all fitness levels. It is especially helpful for those who prefer a gentle yet effective approach to including additional movement in their lives, while working on mindfulness at the same time. It’s perfect for keeping your body subtle and at the same time enhancing mental clarity.
If you are not sure whether this is the practice for you, feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
What a Qigong Class Looks Like
Qigong classes usually entail some warm up exercises, following a practice of a form. I teach Traditional Yang style and my current main principle is Ba Tuan Chin (meaning 8 silk brocades). The classes usually end with a practice of a breathing method.
Qigong can be practiced daily but even a weekly session provides benefits to the practitioners. Taking Qigong principles out of the class and benefiting from the effects during daily life is the real gem of practicing qigong. However, it takes consistency and mindfulness.

I provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore your inner world, identify your goals, and develop a plan to achieve them.
